Winston House refugee rumours untrue

RUMOURS the Winston House aged care facility on Channon St will house Syrian refugees and has been sold or handed to another provider are untrue, Blue Care confirmed late last week.

Blue Care director of services for south-east, Cathy Thomas, said care of the remaining 25 residents remained a priority.

It was announced in November last year Blue Care would close Winston House due to the age of buildings, but would first help existing residents find new accommodation.

"Winston House remains home to 25 residents and our priority is their care and supporting them to a hew home of their choice," Ms Thomas said.

"Rumours we have sold Winston House are untrue. Rumours we have spoken with government agencies about refugees or another aged care provider are also untrue."

The Winston House properties are not listed on the market and any prospective sale at this time has been ruled out.

"We are still investigating our options about what to do with the properties and have not yet made a decision ... ," Ms Thomas said.
