Pizza designer rolling in the dough

AN EYE for designing top-tasting pizza has bagged Gympie man Guy Perry $1700 in just a few months.

Mr Perry, 30, signed up to Domino's Pizza Mogul program in late October last year and in the short time since, has become an online sensation.

Pizza Mogul exists both online and as a mobile app, allowing users to create pizzas for sale from which they receive a slice of the profits.

And it is not just the pizza creators who enjoy some of the dough raised from sales; a percentage of the money raised is also donated to charity.

Mr Perry, otherwise known as #GympiePizzaGuy in the Pizza Mogul universe, donates 10% of his earnings to Care Flight. "The government does not give them money and they are vital for the area," he said.

On a disabled pension, Mr Perry said the money from his pizza venture had eased his family's financial worries. He recently married his wife Tara, paying for her engagement ring with his Pizza Mogul earnings, and now the family is setting a goal of upgrading the family car.

The 2000-model Mitsubishi Pajero is showing signs of being on its last legs and Mr Perry said the time was approaching for a replacement.

Mr Perry often travels the Bruce Hwy transporting his children, Charlie Collie, 9, and daughter Miah Perry, 18 months, to hospital appointments.

"It's so important we have a reliable car so that's my next goal," Mr Perry said.

The Gympie pizza lover originally had 3000 pizza designs, but changes to the Pizza Mogul program meant he needed to cull that number to 25.

It was a tough process but after 18 hours whittling that number down, Mr Perry has his all stars team good to go.

Mr Perry said he did not rely solely on emotional attachment when short-listing his pizzas.

"I got a sales report to see which pizzas were doing well, so I was a bit strategic about it," he said.

Mr Perry's favourite pizza creation is the Barbecue Mega Meatlovers while, proving he is no one-trick pony, there is also a Rodeo Burger showing a different take on the pizza.

"It's been so overwhelming for me," the pizza lover said.

"It happened so quickly."

Mr Perry's pizzas have been professionally photographed for an upcoming Domino's campaign and he has also been hitting up social media himself, spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Just last week, he attended the Domino's Pizza rally at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast.
