Rocky school mourns passionate young cowboy with big grin

KAREM Dunne is being remembered by his former school as a passionate student who brought happiness to all around him.

Rockhampton Grammar School yesterday paid tribute to the 20-year-old Buckland man who died after a single-vehicle crash 25km south of Springsure on Saturday.

Rockhampton Grammar School headmaster Dr Phillip Moulds said his school housemates and several teachers will attend the celebration of his life in Springsure next week.

"The groundswell of emotion among past students from Karem's time at RGS shows the high regard in which he was held," he said.

"Karem epitomised the type of student off the land who thrives as a boarder at RGS, able to retain his rural identity whilst actively engaging in the classroom and in the co-curricular programme.

"Karem rode rodeo whilst at school, and completed certificate courses in Engineering and Work Education along with a School-based traineeship in Agriculture, majoring in Beef Production.

"Karem put everyone around him at ease, and brought happiness to the RGS residential community with his laconic nature and broad grin.

"You couldn't help but like him. The school's thoughts and prayers are with the Dunne family."

Police yesterday told The Morning Bulletin investigations into the crash were continuing.

Karem was travelling on the Dawson Hwy with another 20-year-old Springsure man when the accident happened.

Karem died at the scene, while his friend suffered a suspected spinal injury, lacerations to his back, trauma to his right ankle and bruising to his forehead after he was flung from the vehicle.
