Rockcote founder Chris Cameron inducted into hall of fame

ROCKCOTE founder Chris Cameron will join a club of some of Australia's greatest businesswomen with a special induction today.

Mrs Cameron has been named in the Australian Businesswomen's Network Hall of Fame ahead of International Women's Day on Friday.

The Yandina resident was one of 16 female business owners from industries as diverse as making breakfast foods, to fashion and construction to be inducted this year.

They have been honoured for being exemplary in their industries.

Mrs Cameron, 56, said she was as surprised as anyone to hear she was to be inducted.

She said it was an incredible honour.

"We fly under the radar on the Sunshine Coast, but we have incredible range of talent here in both business and individuals," Mrs Cameron said.

"I suppose a lot of ordinary people (are) doing extraordinary things on the Coast, and sometimes it's not known about because stories are more focused on city people."

The Australian Businesswomen's Network's CEO Suzi Dafnis said the Hall of Fame was created to inspire Australian women with stories of individual success from their high-achieving peers.

"The women we profile serve as role models and mentors for women in all business sectors, encouraging them to realise their business goals," Ms Dafnis said.

"Over the years I've really seen women come into their own as business owners. Their level of ingenuity, creativity and spirit is inspiring.

"I really believe the biggest change factor has been technology. The changes in technology over the past 10 years have really enabled women-lead flexible, innovative and globally-competitive businesses."

The ABN Hall of Fame has been running since 1998.

Previous inductees include

  • June Dally-Watkins,
  • Collette Dinnigan,
  • Sue Ismiel (founder of Nad's),
  • Amanda Briskin (founder of Mimco),
  • Ulrike Klein (co-founder of Jurlique International) and
  • Suzanne McGowan (co-founder of Fastway Couriers).
