Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin enter the Lions' den

MOST 10-year-olds would be overawed in the presence of some of the state's top sportsmen on one of our most famous sporting arenas.

But Robert Irwin isn't like most 10-year-olds.

So it didn't take the youngster long to grab a footy and show his kicking skills on the hallowed Gabba turf after being named one of the Brisbane Lions' new ambassadors.

It was an honour he shared with mum Terri and big sister Bindi when they took some of their own big cats to meet the Lions yesterday.

As well as Sumatran tiger cubs Hunter and Clarence, the Irwins took along other wildlife including snakes and koalas to the announcement. Lions utility Dan Merrett said the club was excited to welcome the Irwins to the Lions family.

"The Irwin family are not just icons of Queensland, they are famous all over the world and we are pumped to have them on board," he said.

"Everyone knows how passionate the Irwin family is ... we are proud to claim them as passionate Lions fans too.

"We have had some big name Queenslanders throw their support behind us this year, but none bigger than Terri, Bindi, Robert and the Australia Zoo family. It's pretty exciting."
