Accused taxi stabber kept behind bars

A WOMAN police allege was involved in a violent attack on a Toowoomba taxi driver last month has been remanded in custody.

Lilly-Anna Chapman, 27, was arrested on Tuesday night in East Toowoomba as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged armed robbery of a taxi driver on October 20.

Police allege she and a male co-accused, Dwayne Owen Warton, 33, hailed the taxi outside a licensed CBD venue about 10pm on October 20, and directed the driver to Anzac Ave in Newtown.

Once the taxi pulled over, police allege Warton demanded money after which a struggle ensured between him and the driver.

The 32-year-old taxi driver suffered three stab wounds in his right hand and is expected to make a full recovery.

The pair then allegedly fled the scene with a backpack which was found dumped in a nearby street.

Warton was arrested and charged on October 25 and appeared in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court the next day when the matters were adjourned to January.

Police arrested and charged Chapman on Tuesday night when she was found at an East Toowoomba address.

She did not appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday during the brief mention, and made no application for bail.

Solicitor Nathan Bouchier, for Chapman, asked the court to adjourn the matters to the same court to match up with her co-accused.

She has been charged with one count each of robbery with actual violence, contravene direction or requirement of police, and stealing.

Magistrate Graham Lee adjourned the matters for mention back in the same court on December 1.
