Roar looking to come back from thrashing

BRISBANE Roar coach John Aloisi expects a tough contest from the Central Coast Mariners when the two sides clash in Gosford tomorrow night.

Both teams are coming off 4-0 thrashings, but the former Socceroo said the Mariners, who finished with the wooden spoon last season, would be a tough nut to crack.

"The Mariners in the two games they've played have created a lot of chances,” he said.

"They're a good side, especially going forward. They've got quick players out wide, (Roy) O'Donovan's quick, (Blake) Powell, and in midfield they've got players who can play.

"They're going to be a side that will cause issues for every team.”

Aloisi said last week's defeat in Newcastle by the Jets was the worst performance under his tutelage.

He said this week had to be better all around from his under-fire team.

"It's quite simple - we have to have a reaction,” Aloisi told reporters.

"You can rack your head about why and who wasn't there, conditions, the way the opposition played, but at the end of the day, there's no excuse.

"Nothing was good. The players are disappointed, as they should be.

"We expect more and we have to perform better.

"They're up for it, they want to show what they can do and where they're headed.”

Skipper Matt McKay will be back after serving a one-match ban for his sending-off in week one but new Spanish signing Arana will miss again as he looks for peak fitness.

Dimi Petratos (ankle) also won't be risked.

Brisbane will be favourite for the clash after victories in all three games against the Mariners last season.

But the Roar has not won in its past four A-League games, including the last two from the previous campaign, drawing two and losing two.
