Roar aiming to stretch winning run
BRISBANE Roar coach Ange Postecoglou believes his squad is discovering the right formula to help them achieve success in the upcoming Hyundai A-League season.
The Roar is undefeated in its pre-season Roar Roadshow tour to date after finding the perfect blend of attacking football and miserly defence.
Brisbane is deep into its pre-season and the match statistics paint a picture of a squad establishing a winning mentality – six games, 19 goals scored and five clean sheets.
With a trip to former State League champions Sunshine Coast Fire on Wednesday night in Gympie, Postecoglou is confident the standard has been set for another exciting Roar performance.
“We said from day one we want to set some standards,” Postecoglou said.
“There is no harm in winning games and keeping clean sheets ... regardless of the opposition or the stage of the season.
Postecoglou and his team have been travelling far and wide in south east Queensland, packaging the Roar’s new brand of football to the grass roots community.
And the message has been clearly received as nearly 3000 rugged-up fans flocked to the Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Heart match at the Clive Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba on Friday night.
“I’ve been really, really happy travelling to places like Ipswich, Peninsula Power and Toowoomba where we get great crowds and great atmosphere,” Postecoglou said.
“We want to give our fans some hope going into the new season and hopefully, come first game, they’ll get right behind us and together we can build from there.”
The enthusiastic crowds supporting Brisbane throughout its Roar Roadshow tour has also been contributed as a motivating factor behind the squad’s winning streak.
Brisbane midfield dynamo Matt McKay sang the praises of the club’s fantastic football family and hoped another big turnout would help the squad across the line against Sunshine Coast Fire.
Brisbane clash with Sunshine Coast FC at One Mile Oval on June 30, with gates opening at 4pm.
There will be a player signing session at 5.10pm before the main game kicks-off at 7.15pm.
