Rifle champions celebrate wins

SEVEN shooters took advantage or the all day 90 metre target and 40 shot silhouette shoot held on October 3 at the Gympie Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Club.

Highest off rifle scores of 186 out of the possible 200 was shared by Jeff Davis and John Boneham.

During the 90 metre target shoot, junior shooter Dylan Sproxton grabbed third position with a score of 182.

The 40 shot silhouette shoot saw Ed Powell top score with 40 giving him a clean sweep of the silhouette score.

Next in line was Jeff Davis with 36/40 followed by John Boneham with 35.

John Boneham took out first place with an aggregate score of 231 after adding his handicap for the 90 meter shoot.

Second place was taken out by Jeff Davis with a score of 229.

Moving on to the final 20 metre competition for the year held on October 6, 25 shooters entered 33 cards for scoring where the bench shooters again prevailed with the top scores for the night.

However, two of the prone sling shooters did chase them for top honours.

Bench shooter Brian Cooper took out the monthly trophy for A Grade bench with a double possible score for the night which grossed him 600 for the month.

Laurie and Michelle Aberdein put up a good fight both scoring 599 for the month.

Ed Powell won the B Grade trophy for the month with a score of 594.

Moving to the prone shooters, brother and sister Isaac and Hannah McKay for the juniors both scored 600 after handicaps were added giving them the first and second trophies for the 20 metre competition.

A battle between Mark Wilcox and Lachy Potter loomed in the seniors with Mark shooting two cards and Lachy shooting four cards to give him his monthly total.

Potter top scored by two points in the off rifle competition but Wilcox grabbed the handicap trophy ahead of Potter by seven points.

Mark's handicap of four will almost certainly drop for the next 20 metre shoot while Lachy will stay at one.

The prone scores for the night are as follows with handicaps show in brackets and then added:

Next Tuesday, October 13 will be the first stage of the November 50 metre competition and the final competition shoot for 2009 with the start of the 2010 shooting year beginning in December.

Visitors are welcome and we have all the gear required for a good nights competition.

All competitions are controlled by accredited club range officers.

Due to new Weapons Licensing Branch regulations, visitors must show some form of ID if they are not fire arms license holders.

Any person who has a criminal offence or has had their fire arms license revoked will be turned away by officials of the club.
