Renshaw’s joy over Easter proposal
SELF-ISOLATION has had a happy ending for Queensland cricketer Matt Renshaw.
The Brisbane Heat batsman popped the question to girlfriend of four years, Josie Harvey, on Good Friday at their Wavell Heights home, where they have been isolating with their two-year-old border collie, Chester.
"It was a pretty 'Good' Friday! Isolation was going to go one of two ways, thankfully it went this way," Renshaw said alongside an Instagram photo showing off Harvey's engagement ring.
Harvey added: "Isolation boredom turned around quite quick today. @mattrenshaw449 asked me to marry him and I obviously said yes."
The engagement comes after a difficult summer of cricket for Renshaw, who went from being an opening batsman for the Australian Test cricket team two years ago to being axed from the Queensland Sheffield Shield side in February.
Renshaw met Harvey, a law student, at a barbecue at Bribie Island and she has become an important support for him during his cricketing career.
"It can be very tough. A couple of years ago when I was first dropped from the side I found it really tough and I was just constantly watching the news and reading the articles, but Josie was really good at that time, telling me to get away from it," Renshaw told The Courier-Mail in November.
They had been moving into the Wavell Heights home at the time, where Renshaw has constructed his own putting green next to Harvey's corner herb garden.
"I love my gardening, golf, and I love spending time at home with Josie and Chester, it's nice to have that release away from cricket," he said.
Teammate Tom Banton, House Rules host Abbey Way, and cricketing partners Erin Holland, Rachel Khawaja, Dani Willis and Rebekah Labuschagne were among those to congratulate the couple.
