Regional child protection hearings

PUBLIC hearings into Queensland's child protection system will now be held in Rockhampton and Ipswich.

Premier Campbell Newman announced the Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry in July to chart a road map for the state's child protection system for the next decade.

The inquiry - which has begun in Brisbane - will examine the current response to children and families in the child protection system, including service standards and court and tribunal processes.

It will now sit in Rockhampton from October 22-25 and in Ipswich October 29 to November 1 as part of a regional tour.

They will be open to the public but when necessary, to protect vulnerable witnesses, hearings will be closed to the public and media.
