Refreshed United looking to get back to winning ways

BASKETBALL: Melbourne United has embraced its extended lay-off between games as it looks to rebound in its home NBL clash with the NZ Breakers on Friday night.

Having played seven games in 20 days to start its season, United has spent the past eight days licking its wounds from back-to-back losses to Perth and then Cairns last Thursday.

United is now 3-4 ahead of games against the Breakers and Illawarra (away) on Sunday.

"We've had a pretty game-filled first three weeks of the season,” guard Nate Tomlinson told media.

"There's a lot this group has got to work on. We haven't had much time together in the pre-season, so this week has definitely helped.

"It was a good week, we kind of just got back to working on us. Having a full week of practice, we could go a bit harder than we normally would - there was a lot of emotion, pretty physical - but that's what you need.”

United's Cedric Jackson and Tai Wesley get another crack at their old side after losing to the Breakers in the opening round. Corey Webster again looms large for the visitors.

The hosts will be without Chris Goulding (ankle) for at least another week.

"He's coming long with his rehab,” assistant coach Mike Kelly said. "It's one step at a time with him. We want him really fit.”
