Real Madrid rocked by Bale injury blow

FOOTBALL: La Liga leader Real Madrid has been dealt a blow with star Gareth Bale to undergo surgery on an ankle.

The Welsh international suffered the injury during Real's Champions League win at Sporting Lisbon and is expected to be sidelined for three months.

"Real Madrid Sanitas Medical Services have decided that Gareth Bale will undergo an operation following the traumatic dislocation of the peroneal tendons of his right ankle,” Real said in a statement.

The 27-year-old winger has scored seven goals and had a hand in three more in 16 outings for Real in all competitions this season.

Zinedine Zidane's team is four points ahead of arch-rival Barcelona, which it plays in El Clasico on December 4 after tonight's clash with Sporting Gijon.
