Rattler "will run to Amamoor" and beyond: Curran

THE Mary Valley's iconic Rattler steam train will live again and will run at least to Amamoor, Mayor Mick Curran told voters at Imbil Bowls Club on Tuesday night.

"The Rattler will run," he promised.

In response to a question from the floor ("The Rattler will run, but how far?"), Cr Curran said he could not pre-empt a state government decision on the issue.

But then he very nearly did so, indicating the tourist train would be back on the rails.

"It depends on funding," Cr Curran said, "at this stage $10 million to Amamoor.

"I'm fully expecting this.

"The business plan is sound and we'll go from there."

He said the issue was in the hands of the Rattler Railway Company and the State Development Department.

"The cost will be $10 million to get to Amamoor," he said, describing this as "the worst section."

"We'll get the Rattler running and get the worst section done first," he said.

He said the state government was not prepared to make the announcement during the election period.
