Editorial: Rattler needs our help now

Editorial: YESTERDAY'S State budget, at first glance, doesn't have much in it for the Gympie region.

Our iconic steam train, the Mary Valley Rattler, seems to have been forgotten, along with the livelihoods of many business people along the Mary Valley line.

Considering the pain the State Labor government inflicted on the Mary Valley with its failed Traveston Crossing dam project, the $2.6 million the LNP had earmarked for the project doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Saying that, I still can't understand why the LNP didn't move the money across to the Rattler company before the election.

In my view the Gympie electorate has been let down by politicians on both sides of the political fence on this issue.

The realty is our iconic tourist attraction is now in mortal danger if funds aren't raised.

It needs to be saved and it is up to us, the people of Gympie, to band together and get the Rattler back on track. It's something positive the community can't afford to lose.
