Radio helps toddler find mum

QUICK thinking Gympie police officers ensured a toddler was reunited with his parents after residents found him walking along Old Maryborough Road yesterday morning.

Police received a call by a resident about the child walking with a blue cattle dog puppy about 7.30am. Ten minutes later police had located the child and were calming him down.

By 8.45am Sergeant Vic Tipman had contacted 4GY and placed an on-air appeal to find the parents of the 12-to-18-month-old child.

Three minutes later the distraught mother of the child had called police. They were reunited soon after.

“It was a great response ... It makes being a police officer in a good community very rewarding,” Sgt Tipman said.

4GY radio presenter Ben Sorrenson said it was great to be able to help out and he was happy it worked out.

“The wonders of radio and a great community,” is what he put it down to.
