A MAN who allegedly assaulted a police officer and locked himself in a room for more than eight hours will remain in custody after fronting court on six charges on Saturday.

The 42-year-old from Raceview was denied bail in Ipswich Magistrates Court the morning after he surrendered to police.

The incident lasted from 11.30am on Friday until police revoked an emergency declaration about 9.50pm.

Police allege when officers were called to a housing complex on Milford St, the man assaulted the female officer and dragged her into a room before attempting to close the door.

They said a second officer used capsicum spray and forced open the door, dragging the first officer back into the corridor.

The man then allegedly tried to assault the female officer again before police used a taser. He then allegedly locked himself into the room.

"A woman who had been in the room at the time was released a short time later," police said.

The emergency declaration was invoked about 3pm on Friday before the man surrendered to police about 8.45pm.

Residents of the complex were told to wait outside and other people in the home with the man were evacuated.

The man now faces two counts each of serious assault of a police officer and possessing dangerous drugs.

He has also been charged with possessing a knife and possessing drug utensils.
