Coast company has 'nothing to hide' from racing probe

THE HEAD of the Sunshine Coast company at the centre of a Commission of Inquiry into the racing industry says he welcomes the investigation.

Contour Consulting Engineers managing director Brett Thomson said his Kawana-based company had "no relationship with the former government and did not receive any funds from the Queensland Government".

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie and Racing Minister Steve Dickson yesterday announced the wide-ranging inquiry, which was expected to cost about $3 million.

It has been suggested Contour was awarded 37 contracts, worth $158m, only one of which went to tender.

"Our records show we have received in the order of $5.8 million in consulting fees over the past six years," Mr Thomson said.

"It has also been suggested that Contour was in receipt of some $20 million in the days leading up to the former government entering into caretaker mode.

"Again, the inquiry will reveal that Contour had no relationship with the former government, and did not receive any funds from the Queensland Government.

"During its time working for Racing Queensland, Contour provided professional services on a number of large projects, part of our role was to undertake a tender phase process to procure construction contractors on these projects. Once again, this has not been reported."
