AFL: While Queensland was rejoicing at having six young players drafted into the AFL on Friday, Tasmania was left to lament not having even one.
"It was obviously disappointing,” state academy coach Adam Sanders told AFL.com.au, adding the state always aimed for at least four draftees as has been its average.
"That's getting harder now with the northern states doing really well with their academies. There's certainly a stronger market over the whole country, so that makes it harder for Tassie.”
Brisbane academy players Jacob Allison (Lions) and Declan Watson (North), and Gold Coast academy products Jack Bowes, Brad Sheeer (both Suns) and Josh Williams (North), were all selected, along with Elliot Himmelberg (Adelaide).
