BEAUTIFUL one day, freezing the next.

Parts of southern Queensland are going to struggle to climb out of bed this morning, with a cold snap plunging parts of the state to almost zero.

Before 6am, only Canberra, Hobart and Perth were colder than Brisbane.

From the border up to Capricornia, it was a brisk start to the week.

Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast was down to 7°C at 6.26am.

Gympie fell down to 5.2°C, Hervey Bay had 6.1°C and Maryborough had 5.6°C this morning.

Rockhampton got down as low as 8.3°C.

Mackay earned its reputation as part of the tropics, topping 13 °C while others shivered.

Gladstone Airport recorded a low of 10.7°C.

But it was once you headed inland that the mercury really slid down.

Warwick was down to 3.1°C at 3.52am, Roma was down to 2.5°C and Clermont was 3.3°C

No-one held a candle to the coldest town in the state though, with peanut capital Kingaroy recording 1.7 degrees at 5.57am.

Luckily, most of the state will have the chance to warm up, with fine and sunny conditions for most of us.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns to expect another cool start to the day tomorrow.

Gladstone Airport: 10.7°C at 5.26am
