BREATHE is a movie detailing the struggle of a quadriplegic - the only problem is, if you're in a wheelchair, you might not be able to see it at The Strand.

Several screenings of the film have been listed as non-wheelchair accessible.

Kristy Banks lives her day-to-day life in a wheelchair and made plans to see the movie on Monday night, only to be disappointed.

"I just don't think much thought was put into it, I suppose," she said.

"I would really like to see it but I think it should be in a section where wheelchairs can get to."

The movie tells the story of the groundbreaking work done to give quadriplegic patients a better quality of life.

It chronicles how quadriplegics went from being bed-ridden to, through innovative technology, being able to enjoy the everyday pleasures of life.

Something Ms Banks said she was unable to do on Monday night.

"There are a lot of instances where I can't get to places and I think now with it being 2018 they should try and make it accessible for everyone to go and do what they want," she said.

"A bit more thought has to go into this kind of thing to consider the disabled world."

While Ms Banks concedes the incident was likely an oversight, she hopes more can be done to spread an understanding of what the city's disabled residents go through every day of their lives.

"If you're not in that situation you probably wouldn't even think about it," she said.

Management of The Strand did not wish to comment on the matter, but confirmed the movie was scheduled to rotate through different screens for the duration of its run at the cinema.

It would be played in downstairs theatres exclusively from tomorrow onwards.
