Qld irrigators save money

FLOOD-HIT irrigators could save more than $400 after the Queensland Government waived and deferred water charges for those in disaster areas.

Natural Resources Minister Andrew Cripps said those in areas deemed eligible for "Category C natural disaster arrangements" would have their licence fee - about $67 - and water charges waived.

Irrigators in these areas would also not have to pay to have water meters read for 12 months.

Water charges would be waived in the Coastal Burnett, Border Rivers, Callide Valley, Cressbrook Creek and Upper Hodgson Creek areas.

Mr Cripps said the combination of these savings could add up to more than $400.
