Punting on a pen for the Cup
THE last couple of days I have been asked by most people I run into, "who are you backing in the Cup?"
Like most people the only time I bet is on Melbourne Cup Day and haven't a clue who I am putting my money on until the last minute.
Over the last 20 years I haven't backed a horse that has even got in the top three let alone won the glamour event.
To tell you the truth the only time I have ever won on the Cup is back in 1979.
Then Hyperno won with jockey Harry White aboard. At the time I was 10 years old and my grandmother was putting a $2 bet on for my brother and me. The lucky pen hit Hyperno after I closed my eyes and stuck it into the sweep in the newspaper.
For the first time I have resorted back to my old winning ways and my lucky pen tells me that again this year. So here is my tip: No.10 Fawkner.
