Prostitute says man raped her

A ROCKHAMPTON prostitute claims a man violently forced her to have sex with him on Saturday, a court heard yesterday.

A Gladstone man, 31, was refused bail in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday as he faced two separate groups of rape charges involving "Asian sex workers".

The man, who cannot be named, is charged with three counts of rape, assault with intent to commit rape and entering a dwelling with intent in relation to Saturday's attack.

He also faces fresh charges of rape, assault with intent to commit rape and break and enter from an incident at a Rockhampton Motel on February 20, 2011, where there was allegedly an argument over the services the man had paid for and the use of a condom.

Magistrate Barry Cosgrove rejected yesterday's bail application, deeming the accused an unacceptable risk.

It is alleged the man entered a Rockhampton house on Saturday and used a soap dispenser as a weapon to threaten a female sex worker and sex acts, to which she did not consent, were performed.

The court heard the accused gave the woman money and his identification.

Lawyer Anthony De Fraine said both accusations of rape would be defended.

He said there were issues with the crown prosecution's case, involving contract law, whether the soap dispenser was an offensive weapon and credibility of evidence.

Mr De Fraine said the crown case was "weak" and relied on the man's admissions in a recorded interview with police, which he ruled non-admissible as police did not offer the man access to the proper legal advice.

He said the man, who is in a relationship, was not a danger to the public.

He did not enter a plea.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Joe Aboud said the accused had several opportunities to speak to legal representation and was given appropriate warnings and safeguards.

The man is due to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 5.
