Channel 10 is expanding The Project with a new Sunday edition.

The Logie-winning news and entertainment program, which recently celebrated its 2000th edition, will now screen six nights a week.

Hosts of the first one-hour Sunday edition, beginning August 27, are Peter Helliar, Dr Chris Brown, Natarsha Belling and Rachel Corbett.

Regular weeknight hosts Carrie Bickmore and Waleed Aly aren't part of the Sunday line-up.

"The new Sunday show will offer an entertaining and engaging look at the news, current affairs and sport of the week that was and the week ahead," Ten program chief Beverley McGarvey said.

Dr Chris Brown, who recently announced he was quitting The Bondi Vet, will co-host the Sunday edition of The Project.

The Sunday night edition of The Project replaces repeats of US sitcom Modern Family which have been a mainstay of the 6.30pm slot on Ten in recent times.

Ten's move means that The Project will be pitted against heavyweights including Seven's Sunday Night and Nine's The Block.

McGarvey is confident it can carve out an audience.

"The Project is unique on Australian television and offers a different take on news and current affairs," Ms McGarvey said.

"We're proud of what it has achieved and continues to achieve, and look forward to bringing more of The Project to viewers."
