Probus members bound for Gympie
ABOUT 150 Probus members from the Wide Bay region and further afield will descend on Gympie to join the four-day Probus Fun Fest hosted by Gympie Probus Club from tomorrow.
The Probus ideals of Fun Fellowship and Friendship will be top of the agenda while participants enjoy a look at some of Gympie's iconic attractions and industries during the four-day gathering.
At night, visitors will be entertained with a welcome and orientation dinner at Gympie Pines, an old-time dance at the Pie Creek Hall and a more formal function at the Gympie Civic Centre.
The organising committee, headed by Thea Nissen, has arranged a program which has interest for everyone and includes a visit to John Cochrane's dairy farm at Goomong, a look at River Junction Droughtmaster Stud, a tour of the historic buildings of Gympie, a look at Robertson Bros sawmill and the Suncoast Gold Macadamia nut factory.
Visitors will also see the Mining Museum and the historic winding engine in steam and visit the old railway station for a short ride on the Red Rocket Rail motor as well as a presentation by
The festival will finish up with a farewell breakfast at the Gympie Bowls Club on Sunday morning.
The committee will try to present Gympie and surroundings in a positive manner and hopes visitors will leave the town with a better understanding of what makes our town the wonderful place that it is.
Probus is an organisation for retired and semi-retired people with the main focus on enriching and invigorating activities with no fund raising involved.
The Gympie Probus Club conducts day trips and longer tours, as well as regular meetings with interesting guest speakers and morning teas and lunches.
