Pressure on if Rabbitohs don’t win

SOUTH Sydney coach Michael Maguire has to pull a rabbit, or at least two big premiership points, out of the NRL hat tonight or things could suddenly turn nasty for the 2014 premiers.

It's not quite panic stations for Souths, who sit in 11th position and are one of four teams on just six points after eight rounds.

But with a Test match next week and then the State of Origin series to come, the toll on their skipper Greg Inglis, and the pressure on the team to win without him will be extreme, especially if they don't lift the two points off the 14th placed Wests Tigers who were left reeling from an embarrassing 60-6 loss to Canberra last weekend.

Tigers coach Jason Taylor lunched a tirade at his players, calling on them to restore some pride in the jumper against Souths this weekend following their sixth successive loss.

"We'll have a team out there that will be ready to represent the Wests Tigers jersey in the fashion that it should be represented, because it wasn't done in the fashion it should tonight," Taylor declared immediately after the 54-point drubbing.

Souths halfback Adam Reynolds, who has one of the best kicking games in the NRL, is an outside chance of being named at No.7 for New South Wales, which would make life even tougher for Maguire in the coming weeks. Reynolds has been cleared of a second broken jaw after being hit in a late tackle by Brisbane forward Adam Blair, and all indications are he will play tonight.

Apart from Inglis, who is an Origin certainty and Reynolds, Souths centre Dane Nielsen will be looking for a big game to build his case to play his fourth interstate game for Queensland next month.
