Pre-Splendour parties

LAST night the pre-Splendour parties were in full swing in Byron Bay.

Triple j played host to an exclusive winners only, party at The Northern with DJ sets from the festival line-up including Last Dinosaurs, DZ Deathrays and Yacht Club DJs.

To gain entry people had to register their interest online along with their favourite festival outfit.

Radio presenters Lewi Mckirdy and Lindsay (The Doctor) McDougall arrived a day early to kick things off for the 500 festival ready people.

Talking to The Doctor yesterday before his drive show, he said he was expecting the town folk to carry the triple j team into the party throng on sedan chairs.

"There's always so many people roaming the streets the night before Splendour so we thought we'd corral a whole bunch of them and be the cool baby sitters for the night," The Doctor said.

Rolling out of a tent into a microphone was easy for the triple j presenter at Woodford but Byron Bay has the benefit of the beach and plenty of vegan options, he said.

The Doctor didn't expect to jump behind the decks for last night's party; instead he'd be annoying the real DJs with requests on his iPhone while wearing an urban camouflage onesie with a listener's pink wig.

Management on the other hand had secured two harnesses (also known as baby leashes) to keep the two renowned party animals of the Yacht Club DJs under control.

Other venues got into the spirit of pre-Splendour parties with the Beach Hotel hosting an all-day party, Sunday. Safari DJs took over the Byron Bay Brewery and LaLa Land had Muscles spinning behind the decks.
