Power up: Gympie lifters show class
IF Saturday's classic power lifting competition is anything to go by, Gympie could be the sports next hot spot.
Snap Fitness hosted the Raw Power lifting competition at the weekend with lifters from as far away as Brisbane making the trip up.
Event organiser and athlete, Nigel Daniel, said it exceeded expectations.
Mr Daniel completed nine out of nine lifts, including a 220kg deadlift.

"I think once we get the word it will create more buzz,” he said.
Athletes are required to complete three attempts at three separate lifts including the bench press, squat and deadlift for a total amount of weight.
Lifting referee Sean Muir said he was impressed at the depth of talent.
"Here in Gympie we are looking at the grass roots level of power lifting,” Mr Muir said.
"Even though the competition was small it was what we wanted.

"We have competitions throughout regional areas in Queensland and Gympie is certainly one of the areas that we are keen to get going,” he said.
