Thief steals adored guinea pigs from child care centre

FURRY friends Elsa and Anna have been guinea pig-napped in a crime that has rocked the Coast's under fives community.

Pupils and parents at Green Beginnings Child Centre in Bokarina are on the hunt for the callous thief who took the guinea pigs as well as their travel cage earlier this week.

Centre director Sam Stuczyk said the pair, named after the lead characters in Disney's Frozen movie, were adored by the children.

Every weekend a different family was allowed to take them home so they could be cared for before being returned.

Children kept a journal of their of their adventures, using pictures and words to document their time with Elsa and Anna.

That process went as normal last weekend, with the cuddly creatures returned on Monday.

However, someone rustled the pair either late on Monday or early on Tuesday.

"It's just devastating that they could go missing and we just can't understand how someone could do that," Mrs Stuczyk said.

She said 130 families used the centre at different times to care for children aged between two and five.

"There was a big waiting list for children to take them home."

Posters have been done up and placed around the centre and emails sent to families.

Mrs Stuczyk said police had not been contacted but called on the thief to return the beloved pets.

Anyone with information can contact the centre on 5437 8401.
