Pomona gears up for mountain festival

THE barricades and bunting are in place and all is in readiness for Pomona to move centre stage as it hosts the 32nd King of the Mountain Festival this Sunday.

The festival runs from 7am-5pm and of course the main feature of the day is the King of the Mountain Race up and down Mt Cooroora.

One very exciting development this year is that spectators will be able to witness on the big screen live footage of the runners as they make their way up and down the mountain.

The festival also serves as a fundraiser for many of local community organisations through food and other stalls.

Volunteers will be manning these stalls, while other volunteers will be assisting the hosts of the event, the Pomona Cooroy Lions Club.

The day kicks off with the hugely popular Bush Poets Breakfast at 7am, followed by the Family Fun Run at 8am.

At 10am the cheering will get even louder as the primary school relays are run around Stan Topper Park.

Midday sees the Pomona Community House Cook-Off being staged, and then at 1pm is the 2.8km Mountain Dash.

The world famous World Thong Throwing Championship is at 1.30pm and the big race itself, the King of the Mountain Challenge, begins at 3pm.
