Police net drugs, drink drivers in operation on Gold Coast

GOLD Coast police have concluded a two night major traffic operation at Chevron Island which resulted in 26 people being charged.

Operation North Blue Strike saw officers from Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Road Policing Unit, Gold Coast RAP, Roadside Drug Testing Unit and Brisbane Drug Dogs targeting drink and drug driving, and other life-endangering offences from July 3 to July 4.

A search of vehicles allegedly uncovered cannabis, methylamphetamine, and vials of steroids.

Officers conducted 938 random breath tests with eight people allegedly testing positive.

Twenty-three drugs tests were performed with 10 positive results.

In total, 35 charges were laid including 11 for unlicensed driving, eight for drink driving, eight for possessing dangerous drugs, three for possessing utensils, two for possessing weapons, and one count each of stealing, failing to dispose a syringe and possessing tainted property.

Sixty-one traffic infringement notices were also issued.
