Police hunt down accused Christmas Eve cop basher

POLICE have arrested and charged a 39-year-old man who allegedly beat up an officer on Christmas Eve.

The police officer was assaulted at the Glass House Mountains on December 24, allegedly while he stopped a white Toyota Camry on Johnston Rd.

While checking the towing trailer for its registration plate, the male passenger got out of the vehicle and approached the officer.

Police will allege the man punched the officer a number of times to the head and body. A struggle ensured and the man told the driver to get a nine-year-old child out of the vehicle.

The passenger then got into the vehicle and drove away without the other man or child.

It will be further alleged the Toyota Camry had been stolen from a Glenview address on the evening on December 10.

Police attended a house in Pashen St at Morningside yesterday and located a 39-year-old Glass House Mountains man.

He has been charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts each of burglary and serious assault police.

He was also charged with one count each of contravene direction, drive motor vehicle whilst disqualified and possession of a dangerous drug.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
