Alleged 'lonely hearts' robber arrested in Gladstone

A MAN police believe is the 'lonely hearts robber' - a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Sydney - has been arrested in Gladstone and faces charges of a similar nature here.

Gladstone police allege Beau Robert Bartlett broke into a Sun Valley home on February 28, tied a woman up with zip ties, taped her mouth and put a jumper over her head.

Police believe he took cash and her mobile phone before leaving in a black Holden maloo.

Police in two states had been looking for the 31-year-old after he allegedly pulled a knife on a man he met on Craigslist through a 'looking for love' advertisement in Sydney's west in December.

Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Lindsay said police first suspected Bartlett was in this region when a vehicle seen in a car park matched the one in the nation-wide search alert released by New South Wales Police.

That information remained dormant, Snr Sgt Lindsay said, until police saw the same maloo during a drug raid last Friday.

"We executed a search warrant for drugs on a property where we believed (Bartlett) was and noticed the maloo in the backyard," Snr Sgt Lindsay said.

"He wasn't home at the time but we were given information that he would be meeting someone at a local hotel.

"We had surveillance at the hotel and when he entered lobby of the hotel we (arrested) him."

During the drug raid it is believed police found computers associated with a $50,000 burglary in Victoria Point, near Brisbane, drugs, instructions to make drugs and the mobile phone belonging to the alleged Sun Valley victim.

Bartlett will now front Gladstone Magistrate's Court on May 26 on two charges of armed robbery, stealing, possessing drugs, possessing instructions to manufacture drugs, incorrect disposal of a syringe and drug paraphernalia.

If he is found guilty of offences in Queensland, Snr Sgt Lindsay explained, Bartlett would have to serve jail time in this state before being transported to New South Wales to face any charges there.
