Police attacked, cars smashed as house party becomes war zone

A WILD house party has left a policeman injured and a home trashed in Melbourne's southwest.

Police were called to the Attunga Grove, Werribee home after receiving reports of an out-of-control house party about 3.30am but were forced to retreat when partygoers began pelting officers with rocks.

The Public Order Response Team and Critical Incident Response officers were called in to break up the violent party a short time later and the crowd was dispersed.

The house was available for rent online.

A policeman suffered a minor elbow injury during the melee but no one was arrested at the scene.

A passer-by has described the scene this morning as a "war zone".

Robert told 3AW pickets had been pulled from the nature strip and rubbish was strewn across the street.

Police remained on scene this morning and will investigate the criminal damage to the home.
