Police say Bunnings bomb failed to detonate properly
LATEST: POLICE have said the party popper used in the suspicious device found in Ipswich West was a detonator for a larger explosive that failed to fire.
The device was taken away for analysis to determine what substances were used in the home made device.
Police were at the Bunning's Warehouse construction site for seven hours until the site was cleared this afternoon.
UPDATE: POLICE have detonated a suspicious device at the Bunnings Warehouse construction site at West Ipswich following reports of a small explosion this morning.
Police said an unknown device, consisting of masking tape and fishing line, was attached to a fence near the Darling St West entrance to the site.
A construction worker found the fishing line when opening the gate as work was about to begin this morning.
He pulled the fishing line, which triggered a loud bang and a small explosion.
The man was not injured in the incident.
Police called in the bomb squad, who carried out a controlled detonation of the device just before 12pm.
