Poets, balladeers charm judges with bush talent

GYMPIE singers and poets scooped the awards pool at a recent bush poet's breakfast weekend at Warwick.

Margaret Bye came home with three first prizes, a second and two third prizes, which included the gospel, bush poetry, comedy and bush ballad sections.

Together with Ray Mackey, Margaret also received third prize in the duet section while their group also received a third prize.

The Gympie representatives are giving local residents the chance to enjoy their talents at a bush poet's breakfast being at the Chatsworth Hall, Rammutt Rd, Chatsworth on Sunday, April 6.

Sponsored by the Curra Social and Sports Club, the event will also feature a great variety of music, bush poetry and humour from performers Warren and Kathy Dakin, Colin Turner, Pam Norman, Glenda John and Sue Reid.

The morning will begin at 8.30am with a bushie's breakfast of savoury mince and baked beans, with damper and golden syrup (Cocky's Joy) to follow. There will be endless tea and coffee available and the cost is $10 per adult, $5 per child or $25 for a family.

The entertainment begins at 9.15am. and there will be raffles and a lucky door prize.
