Plan to move bowls club still in works

GYMPIE Regional Council has given its in-principle support to a project to move the Kandanga Bowls Club, even though the Traveston Crossing Dam has been scrapped.

At the last Works and Services Committee meeting councillors received a letter from the Kandanga Bowls Club president which outlined reasons to support the move to higher ground.

“This relocation has been under discussion for a number of years due to past damage and impact to the club facilities caused by flooding of Kandanga Creek,” the letter said.

The letter went on to request council consider setting aside a portion of land for a sporting and recreation precinct in Kandanga and further discussions about the move.

Club members have agreed no further capital can be spent on the existing bowls club at its current location and moving is the only option to ensure the club's future.

Queensland Water Infrastructure currently owns the proposed site.
