New piano to make grand start

THE arts in Gympie received a boost with a new grand piano for eistedfodds and concerts.

Gympie Council acquired the Kawai concert piano in partnership with Queensland Eistedfodd to replace the 30-year-old Kawai previously used.

The piano was offered to the eistedfodd committee at a drastically reduced price from Kawai to mark the company's commitment to music education.

It was purchased for about $70,000 - $20,000 of this provided by Qld Eistedfodd.

To celebrate, council will host An Evening with Stefan (an extremely talented and entertaining pianist) at Heritage Theatre, Gympie Civic Centre on February 17.

Tickets $10, available from the Town Hall desk.
