Phone coverage needed

LIKE it or not our modern life is becoming more and more reliant on telecommunications.

Everything from banking, paying for goods and services and contacting loved ones is reliant on quality infrastructure.

Unfortunate much of the Gympie Region has substandard services.

Mobile phone reception to the west is almost non-existent and in places like Rainbow Beach, during peak holiday periods, reception is hampered by overloaded towers.

During normal times these failings are annoying but during a disaster, like flooding or a major traffic accident, a lack of reception can be the difference between life or death.

Gympie Regional Council is right to seek an audience with Telstra to voice their concerns, contacting Optus should be the next meeting planned.

If telcos could work together maybe they could share the cost of infrastructure in country areas.
