Phillis says show re-boosted her passion for performing

"I think people bring her (Delta) down a lot, but she does a lot for everyone, she's really genuine,"

SOPHIE Phillis thought The Voice might be her last chance for a career in the music industry.

But that's not the case anymore.

"I felt like as a mother, it could be my last opportunity, but the experience reminded me how much I love performing," Sophie told The Bulletin yesterday.

Sophie spoke about her experience on the popular TV talent show.

"It (the show) actually re-boosted my whole passion for performing," she said.

Sophie made it through the blind auditions, and chose Delta Goodrem as her coach.

But she was knocked out of Team Delta this week after her battle against fellow contestant Nathan Allgood.

"At the end of the day, this was an awesome experience," she said.

"I put a great deal into that performance on an emotional level."

Sophie learnt a lot by being on Team Delta and said she really respected Delta as an artist.

"I think people bring her down a lot, but she does a lot for everyone, she's really genuine," Sophie said.

It was a surreal experience for the single mum, with the competition giving her national exposure.

Sophie said it was a bit intimidating at first, singing on TV with the four celebrity judges in front of her.

When Ricky Martin thought Sophie should've won the battle round, it was surreal, she said.

At one point Sophie said she was thinking, 'Oh my gosh, Ricky Martin knows my name'.

But entering another reality TV singing competition is not on the cards for the Emerald girl, though she is still planning to make a name for herself.

"I'm going to take myself on a writing retreat and finishing writing for an album I want to look at recording."

In the meantime, Sophie is just "playing everything by ear".
