Brutal imagery of dog savaged on State of Origin night

COVERED in bloody puncture wounds from vicious dog bites, poor Glenlee pooch Chloe the boxer still shakes with every breath.

About three or four larger mastiff-type dogs, near her Glenlee home on Belmont Rd, attacked the deaf six-year-old canine when her owners, Cathryn and Robert Voois, were out watching the State of Origin.

The couple now need help to pay the vet bill, which has been described as "in the thousands".

Cathryn and Robert's daughter Kelly Webb, who owns a north Rockhampton tattoo parlour, told The Morning Bulletin her parents and other family members were at her brother's house in Gracemere watching the footy.

When Cathryn and Robert returned home around 11pm, they found Chloe barely alive and their two-year-old, pure-bred shar pei Smooch dead.

Cathryn rang her daughter in hysterics.

They rushed Chloe to the Alma St Veterinary Hospital for immediate treatment.

"The staff members, vets and nurses all turned up in their pyjamas to help our Chloe... they were fantastic and are doing a great job looking after Chloe," Kelly said.

Upon closer inspection, Smooch the shar pei's skull had been crushed severely.

Kelly believed a much larger dog had clenched its jaw around a significant part of Smooch's head and crushed it.

She also said there were several bigger dogs roaming the Belmont Rd area of Glenlee. She urged owners to lock up their dogs.

The Livingstone Shire Council has not yet received a report on the attack.
