Pest turtle on the nose

BOMBS and illegal substances are the usual targets but in the Gympie region it's a reptilian invader that's being sniffed out.

At Gympie Regional Council Works and Services Committee Meeting yesterday it was reported that a sniffer dog was used by Biosecurity Queensland to search the Neerdie area after a turtle, later identified as a red-eared slider turtle, was caught, photographed and released by the local land owner last month.

The dog, which has been trained specifically to locate any trace of the Class 1 pest or its eggs, was unable to detect anything.
