Man dies on beach after being pulled from surf

A SYDNEY man, aged in his 50s, died on Sapphire Beach this afternoon after being pulled unconscious from the water. 

The man had been swimming with family at the southern end of the unpatrolled beach, 5km north of Coffs Harbour, when he got into trouble around 1pm. 

He was pulled from the water and could not be revived, ambulance paramedics said. 

The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital where he was pronounced deceased on arrival. 

 

2PM:  PARAMEDICS are working to revive a man, who was reportedly pulled from the surf at Sapphire Beach, a short time ago.

Emergency services were called to the scene off Beach Rd around 1.15pm after the unconscious man was pulled from the water, Ambulance Media said.  

"Paramedics remain on scene and are currently performing CPR," a media spokesperson said.  

"The man will be transported to the emergency department of the Coffs Harbour Hospital." 

 

1.30PM: EMERGENCY services are racing to Sapphire Beach amid reports of a 'possible drowning' incident.

A person has been rescued from the surf, with numerous triple-0 calls made. 

Ambulance paramedics are on scene and police are responding.
