People urged to join cancer fight

TODAY is World Cancer Day and Cancer Council Queensland and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) want all Queenslanders to join the global fight against cancer.

Bridget Kehoe, spokeswoman for Nutrition and Diet and Helpline operator at Cancer Council Queensland, said:

"At least one in three cancers are preventable and the number of cancer deaths can be reduced significantly through adopting healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating healthily, exercising regularly, not smoking, being SunSmart and reducing alcohol consumption," she said.

A World Cancer Day 2012 application for Facebook and Twitter has been launched to allow users to make their a personal pledge to commit to a positive lifestyle. Cancer Council Helpline, 8am-6pm, Mon-Fri, 13 11 20 or visit
