Pedestrian, 85, dies after being struck by car

AN 85-year-old pedestrian has died in Brisbane after being struck by a car on the city's north yesterday.

Police said that at about 6pm a vehicle travelling north on Newman Rd, Wavell Heights, struck a pedestrian.

"An 85-year-old woman from Virginia suffered serious head injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where she passed away," police said in a statement.

"The 35-year-old female driver was not physically injured in the crash.

"The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating."
