Party of Five gets reboot with a twist

PARTY of Five launched the careers of Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lacey Charbert, Scott Wolf and Matthew Fox.

Now, like most '90s shows of great or even moderate success, it is getting rebooted.

In a twist however, instead of the Salingers, the family will be immigrants, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman are on-board and will centre the new show around a first-generation Latino family who have immigrated to the US.

In Party of Five, Charlie (Matthew Fox), Bailey (Scott Wolf), Julia (Neve Campbell), Claudia (Lacey Chabert) and their baby brother Owen are forced to rely on each other after their parents are killed in a car crash.

It is unclear if the reboot will include the deaths of the parents or many other highly-dramatic issues that Party of Five dealt with every episode.

The San Francisco-set Party of Five aired for six seasons, from 1994-2000 and sparked a spin-off called Time of Your Life, which focused around Jennifer Love Hewitt's character.

Party of Five won a Golden Globe in 1996 for best drama.

Neve Campbell went on to star in the Scream movies and House of Cards, Matthew Fox had another hit TV show with Lost, Jennifer Love Hewitt starred in Ghost Whisperer, The Client List and Criminal Minds, while Lacey Chabert starred in Mean Girls.
