Paragon Theatre gains praise from national theatre group

THE Cinema And Theatre Historical Society of Australia (CATHS) has congratulated the residents of Childers on the re-opening of the Paragon Theatre.

CATHS Queensland convenor Steve Maggs said it was wonderful to see new life breathed into such a historic building.

"We are very excited to see such a historic theatre building being brought back to life," he said.

"This will be a great asset to the community and I am sure that locals will give it full support. So much time and effort has gone into the restoration.

He said it was great the building would be restored to its original purpose.

"It is wonderful that movies are coming back to the theatre," Mr  Many older theatre buildings that are still standing are often restored, but converted into other uses such as retail stores or subdivided into offices."

CATHS aims to record the history of the cinema and theatre building in Australia.

CATHS was formed in 1989 by a group of people with a passion for cinema and theatre history, from the earliest local hall up to the modern multiplex as well as live theatres. We are a non - profit organisation run by dedicated volunteers.

The society produces a quarterly magazine called CinemaRecord which contains articles on cinema and theatre history and personalities as well as the technical side of the industry.

There are members all across Australia, as well as in New Zealand, the USA and UK.

Members also give talks to local Historical Societies and Service Clubs. Membership of CATHS is $45 per year.
