Palmer keeping media 'on edge'

CLIVE Palmer is remaining hushed on whether he will nominate for LNP pre-selection for the federal election, opting instead for keeping the media "on edge."

The mining magnate called Brisbane journalists to a press conference on Monday regarding asylum seekers being allowed to fly from Indonesia to Australia, despite making a very similar announcement at a Liberal Party conference in Melbourne over the weekend.

After the re-heated statements were delivered, Mr Palmer was grilled on his candidacy for the federal seat of Lilley, a north Brisbane electorate currently held by Treasurer Wayne Swan.

Standing in front of a banner reading "Lilley Election 2013 - Swan's Song", Mr Palmer remained coy about his intentions.

"You are going to have to find out tomorrow," he said. "I can't tell you today because I promised Andrew Crook (media advisor) I wouldn't.

"He (said)…you will get more media by not telling them today.

"I haven't filled out my nomination form, I can say that to you."

Queensland's richest businessman fuelled speculation of another fun-filled media conference relating to the pre-selection and claimed there would be more things happening on Tuesday "than one could imagine".

"We can't tell you anything because we want you all to be on your edge," he said.

The deadline for pre-selection nomination was Monday night.
