Clive Palmer blasts the airwaves in lead up to election

AIRWAVES in Western Australia have been dominated by the Palmer United Party as Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten campaign for support at Saturday's Senate by-election.

Advertisements for Clive Palmer's party have been running almost non-stop before the political advertisements black-out starts Wednesday.

Reports emerged on Tuesday the PUP may have spent almost 11 times that of the major parties on political ads, according to monitoring firm Ebiquity.

As Mr Abbott continues to call for voters to support government plans to ditch the carbon and mining tax, Mr Shorten has capitalised on a teachers' strike, urging voters to back Labor in view of potential budget cuts.

PUP instead promised WA voters a bigger share of GST revenue, but has not yet revealed plans on how it would get the required support for GST changes from every other state and territory.

WA voters go to the polls on Saturday, with pundits tipping two Senate seats each for Labor and Liberal, possibly one extra for the Liberals, with the remaining seat up for grabs among minor parties.
